Invited by the Nippon
International Performance Art Festival (NIPAF), I spent two weeks
in Japan with other Japanese and international artists and presented
a series of work in a tour to 4 places. Japanese and Chinese shared
the same source of language: Chinese characters (Kanji) are being
adopted in Japanese writing system since the 6th Century AD with
different readings developed later on according to different contexts.
In the festival, I tried to learn Japanese in my serial performances.
Through various interactions with the Japanese, I intended to explore
the cultural politics of linguistic communication when languages
were being placed in daily-life situations but out of their cultural
contexts.
